WACO, TX- The Waco ISD Board of Trustees has appointed Mr. Arash Abnoussi to serve as the new trustee for District 2, filling the vacancy left by the resignation of former trustee Stephanie Korteweg earlier this spring.
Following an application and interview process, the board voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Abnoussi during a special meeting on Tuesday, June 17. He will officially take the oath of office during the regularly schedule board meeting at 6 p.m. today. Mr. Abnoussi is an award-winning educator who brings more than two decades of experience in public education, including service as a classroom teacher, instructional specialist, and education coordinator. Currently, he supports districts across Central Texas as an education specialist at Education Service Center Region 12. He is also an active community member and Waco ISD parent, serving on Waco ISD's Quality District Advisory Council and the Board of Directors for Communities in Schools of the Heart of Texas.
"We are excited to welcome Mr. Abnoussi to the board," said Board President Jose Vidaña. "This appointment reflects our commitment to strong community representation for District 2 and continued focus on serving the students, families and staff of Waco ISD. We are grateful to all of the applicants who expressed interest in this important role. It wasn't an easy decision."
The District 2 seat represents a vital portion of Waco ISD and was left vacant following Korteweg's departure. The board moved forward with an appointment process to ensure consistent representation for the community as key district decisions move ahead.
